Named Director of Philanthropic Initiatives for the Baton Rouge Community College Foundation (BRCCF) in 2024, Mila Sexton, CFRE, brings more than 38 years of leadership in social services, healthcare, and education, raising nearly $50 million to benefit youth and families across Louisiana. Since joining BRCCF in January 2024, she has secured more than $2 million in support, advancing the college’s top priorities, expanding high-demand, high-wage opportunities for students, and driving regional economic growth.


Her career includes more than two decades with LSU’s College of Human Sciences and Education as chief advancement officer for the University Laboratory School Foundation, as well as senior leadership roles with the American Heart Association as Senior Vice President and General Health System Foundation as Senior Development Director. An award-winning fundraiser, Mila is recognized for her ability to craft strategic, results-driven fundraising plans and inspire transformational change through volunteer and board leadership.


Active in her vocation and community, Mila has advanced the profession through mentoring, training, and presenting to numerous schools and associations including the Baton Rouge Area Foundation’s Fellows Program, Southern University, Louisiana State University and global non-profit organizations including The Council for Advancement and Support of Education and the Association of Fundraising Professionals.


Mila earned her CFRE in 1999, was awarded the AFP Brother Donnan Berry Award in 2005, bestowed AFP’s Outstanding Professional Fundraiser in 2007, and has been designated one of four AFP Certified Master Trainers in Louisiana in 2018.


Mila has served as a member of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy, American Prospect Research Association, Junior League of Baton Rouge, and Planned Giving Council of Greater Baton Rouge. She is a graduate of the 1996 Leadership Class of the Baton Rouge Chamber. She has served on the boards of the American Heart Association, St. Aloysius Child Development Center, Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), Baton Rouge Cotillion, and Mid-City Dance Project. She currently serves as a member of Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre Board, The Echo Alliance supporting Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, Elevate Louisiana, Leadership Baton Rouge Alumni, 2025 Business Report Executive Leadership Academy and Rotary Baton Rouge.


Mila is married to George H. Sexton, III and they have 2 children and 2 grandchildren.
